Witness the work of famed Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan at , a majestic religious structure that dominates the Golden Horn and shares similarities with Hagia Sophia. This mosque was commissioned by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in 1550 and completed seven years later. Though it may be less ornate than other elaborate religious structures in the city, the mosque's Byzantine influence has gained it recognition for its blend of architectural styles. Having experienced damage from natural disasters and wars over the centuries, the building is fully restored and now one of the most popular attractions in Istanbul. Suleymaniye Cami Reviews
This was one of the first places we went in Istanbul, and it was a perfect way to kick off our visit. The mosque itself is beautiful and offers many very good photo opportunities. But one also... more »
After having visited the Aya Sofya and the Blue Mosque, I wasn’t expecting to be so touched by another such structure. But I’m so happy I visited. It’s definitely worth seeing. Firstly, it is... more »
Probably the very best mosque to visit in Istanbul, not only is the architecture beautiful, but the view out over the river and the city is simply amazing! It has very nice gardens surrounding it so you can lay back and relax and enjoy the entire complex. And if you're feeling adventurous you can climb to the top of one of the VERY large minarets! So worthing going to see, plus its free.
One of my favourite Mosques in Istanbul. It looks like it had undergone recent restoration therefore the new facade. Similar to other mosques, visitors must dress appropriately. Women must wear a headscarf if you would like to enter the main area. Inside, the visitors area is separated to the back part of the mosque but this does not deter you from appreciating the beauty of it. I would recommend at least 1 or 2 hours to fully appreciate this place.
