Manama

— 6 nights
Bahrain's capital and largest city, Manama serves as a commercial and financial hub, keeping pace with other Gulf capitals dominating this part of the world.
Visiting Al Dar Islands and Royal Golf Club will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Manama side-trips: Al Areen Wildlife Park & Reserve (in Zallaq) and King Fahd Causeway (in Saar). There's much more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Al-Fatih Mosque (Great Mosque), cool off at The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park, make a trip to Tree Of Life, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Royal Camel Farm.

To see where to stay, other places to visit, photos, and other tourist information, you can read our Manama planner.

If you are flying in from Saudi Arabia, the closest major aiport is Bahrain International Airport. December in Manama sees daily highs of 26°C and lows of 20°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Thu) so you can travel back home.

Popular with tourists for its blend of ancient heritage and modern Arabian culture, the compact island country of Bahrain sits near the Persian Gulf's western shores and boasts a lively economy largely based on petroleum refining and international banking. Claiming to be the actual location of the biblical Garden of Eden, the country enjoys a tropical climate and offers a string of luxury beachfront resorts, appealing to some of the world's wealthiest vacationers. Budget travelers on holiday in Bahrain concentrate on the thriving food and arts scenes of capital Manama, known for having one of the world's largest mosques. From there, you'll have easy access to plenty of other popular activities, such as scuba diving, horse racing, pearl diving, and bird-watching.
