The capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, boasts an impressive medieval quarter--one of the continent's largest and a World Heritage Site with almost 2,000 historical buildings.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Vilnius Old Town and Trakai Island Castle Museum. Step out of Vilnius to go to Trakai and see Chapel of St. John Nepomuk, which is approximately 30 minutes away. Situated between the Neris and Nemunas rivers, Kaunas is known for its old town, which, though smaller than the capital's, is in much better condition.
Ninth Fort and Laisves aleja (Liberty Boulevard) are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Take a break from Kaunas with a short trip to Vytauto Kalnas in Birstonas, about 46 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: explore the historical opulence of Kaunas Castle, examine the collection at Museum of History of Lithuanian Medicine and Pharmacy, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Pazaislis Monastery, and indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas.
