Trip Planner: Europe / Portugal / Central Portugal / Lisbon District / Sintra Municipality / Sintra / Park and National Palace of Pena
The exotic Park and National Palace of Pena, a World Heritage Site known for its Romanticist architecture, is listed as one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. While the foundation of this palace dates back to a chapel in the Middle Ages, the current appearance is mostly the work of German architect Baron Wilhelm Ludwig von Eschwege. He mixed Neo-Gothic, Neo-Manueline, Neo-Islamic, and Neo-Renaissance styles to create this dramatic structure. Tour the palace to admire the building's restored red and yellow facade, interior design, and antique furniture. Park and National Palace of Pena Reviews
We took the train from Lisbon, about a 45-minute trip, to Sintra. We had planned to visit several of the palaces in the area, but the lines to gain entrance to the gardens and then the palace interior... more »
Le plus intéressant à voir est ce que vous voyez sur les photos : ce drôle de chateau coloré. Une fois sur place, on voit que de plus près les murs sont sales, les alentours peu entretenus. La visite ... more »The most interesting to see is what you see in the pictures: this funny colorful castle. Once there, we see that closer the walls are dirty, the surroundings poorly maintained. Visiting the rooms is of little interest. In fact, it is a castle tapped to the eye, soulless. On the other hand the park is beautiful and worth it. In an hour and a 30 minutes we didn't go around. At the entrance you are given a map to find yourself between the jets of water, fountain, house of ducks, mini cave etc. Again, I'll take the ticket for the outside only. Because price level is really abuse: 6.50 round the bus ride - 14 euros the full tour of the site. It's very expensive when you're with your family! It is possible to walk up to the castle. But it's going up! Going down seems more doable. Get good shoes.
Where do I begin with such beautiful creation. 1. Arrive early in the morning. 2. Park in the garden at the bottom and walk up, you really get to embrace what this wonder truly represents. 3. Take pictures, take your time. Wear comfortable shoes. 4. The walk takes about 3 hours if you really want to explore the location.
Definitely worth going. Went in the afternoon an hour before closing time. Not to many people. Beautiful view. Its beautiful inside. Every room is intricate. We can tell that a lot of money went into decorating this home. Everything from the ceilings to the furniture are pure artistry.
