  • Madaba is the biggest christian (&probably the only one) in Jordan. It is the city of mosaics. The main attraction is St. john the Baptist church where you will find the famous 16x6 m. ancient Palestine mosaic. When it was created it consisted of 2,3 millions! tiny pieces and showed the Holy Land; most probably it served a pilgrim map. In the middle of the map you will see the oval city of Jerusalem with its 21 towers and 6 gates.
  • It was a wonderful experience visiting this church. The staff here was also very helpful. The church complex is small but beautiful. For us, the exciting parts of the experience were - the climb to the bell tower and the descent into the acropolis. The bell tower climb using stairs is not very difficult and the views from the top are amazing. The underground acropolis is chilly but an interesting experience - there are lot of beautiful mosaics, artefacts and a lot of history. The church building itself is big and sparsely decorated.
