Built by architect Flaminio Ponzio in the 17th century, Villa Borghese was once the private suburban estate of Scipione Borghese, a prominent cardinal and an avid art collector. This estate on the edge of Rome includes a villa with an extensive art collection that Borghese assembled over several decades. The sprawling estate covers about 80 hectares (200 acres) and includes one of Rome's most celebrated parks and landscape gardens. Designed in the naturalistic English manner and developed from sketches drawn by Borghese himself, the well-maintained gardens now attract art lovers, walkers, cyclists, and picnickers. You can rent bicycles at several points around the park. We had one and by looking on the internet, we were offered a visit at 22 euros or 30 euros per person; while going directly (in the lower period), the rates are much cheaper: 15 euros the entry - bag deposit with audioguide (extra if you want to at 5 euros). We went to the entrance for 9am, and were offered the 1pm slot for 30 euros for 2 adults. A tip, start by visiting the 1st floor (less world) and then go down rooms after rooms. This visit is worth a visit.
Such a fun park! It is a wide open park near the top of the hill with a lot of things to do like museums, a zoo, places to eat, ruins to see, and a lot of walking too. The park is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. There are a lot of stations that rent out bicycles and karts and I would highly recommend you rent them. The costs are not much. 12€ for one hour for a two seater. The park is vast and you will need these bikes to cover all the grounds. In fact, we rented it for 1 hour and only saw maybe 3/4 of the entire area. Maybe less! Also, it is loads of fun. There are shaded areas too because of all the trees so no worries visiting it in the mid day. Also, spectacular views overlooking Rome. Definitely check this park out if you have time to spare in Rome!!
Big park, best thing to see is the lake. Can rent golf carts/ bikes/ bicycles, quad cycles in order to cover more ground faster. Super annoying people force you to take flowers and bracelets for "free" and than asks for donations. Once you refuse to give them any money they will take back those "free" items. Just push them away and ignore them!
