Throw a coin over your left shoulder into Trevi Fountain, the legend claims, and you are sure to eventually return to the city. Undoubtedly one of the most photographed sites in the city, the fountain was designed by architect Nicola Salvi and built in 1762. Standing at 26 m (86 ft) high and 49 m (161 ft) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Fans of Italian cinema easily recognize this site, which has appeared in numerous notable films, including director Federico Fellini's famed "La Dolce Vita." Trevi Fountain Reviews
Hermosa fuente. Da para quedarse mirándola varias horas. Vale la pena verla de día y de noche. Llena de turistas. more »Beautiful Fountain. It gives to stay looking at it for several hours. It is worth seeing it day and night. Full of tourists.
Nice fountain, great sculpture but crowded. All around the fountain you get harassed by street vendors trying to sell bracelets. Nice stop on the way to something else. more »
The Trevi fountain is gorgeous. Read up about it before you visit. Or if you are taking a more extended tour, be sure that the guide will tell you some fascinating stories about the fountain, and it's history. Crowds will be thick, particularly at night. Don't let the vendors hassle you. Be blunt, and tell them to go away. Don't take anything that they (or anyone) tries to hand you. Don't make change for anyone who claims they need smaller bills. Watch out for children, who are the most likely pick-pockets. Just go to see the fountain, be vigilant, and don't carry a bunch of bags, and full pockets. Don't read this as "you'll be robbed." Read this as "Be wise, and vigilant, and you'll be fine, and you'll see a piece of history that is well worth the visit to Rome." If you are prepared to be careful and conscious of your surroundings, you MUST go. Be a wise traveler and go. It's worth it.
It's beautiful and grand. Romantic. Gorgeous. Relaxing. Feels good just sitting there and taking it in, the sight, the sounds. Just wish tourists would have more respect and not litter around the fountain, please. The clean water comes from the Roman Aqueduct. This fountain is one of the oldest water sources in Rome dating back to ancient Roman times, since the construction of the Aqua Virgo Aqueduct in 19 B.C. that provides water to the Roman baths and the fountains of central Rome to this day.
