  • The Pusterla of Sant'Ambrogio, located in front of the homonymous basilica, is one of the lesser gates (also called "Pusterle") placed on the medieval walls of Milan. The still existing one was erected in 1939 in imitation of the Ancient One, of which only the ruins were left. It has two towers and an entrance with double fornice, for the realization of which were used bricks obtained from the doors and the original medieval walls, demolished over the centuries. Three Statues of saints (Ambrogio, Gervasio and Protasio) from the FOURTEENTH century of an anonymous maestro Campionese from the hospital of Sant'Ambrogio were also reused. The door, built in bricks, has two towers and on the left one were affixed three fasces lictors, later eliminated. Until a few years ago one of the towers housed the permanent exhibition of criminology and ancient weapons, then evicted from the municipality and waiting for new location. Nice and well kept but nothing great.
