  • Courteous and efficient staff, solemn environments. The search for documents is quick and free, the ability to photograph them freely is very useful.

  • The gigantic sculpture in front of the palace is a work by Joan Mirò, entitled Mere Ubu, which the artist donated to the city in 1973. Joan Mirò, the great surrealist painter and sculptor, was born in Barcelona in 1893. After commercial studies and a shabby job as an accountant in a grocery store (which led to a nervous breakdown), Mirò decided to devote all his energies to art. After his studies in Spain and some small exhibitions, he moved to Paris, where he was able to attend Picasso and was influenced by Dada artists. Right from the start his style turned out to be extremely original, always stretched towards abstractism. In a few years, thanks to a handful of exhibitions, the name Mirò became known all over the world. In Short he stood as one of the greatest surrealist artists, so much so that the founder of this artistic current called him "the most surrealist of all of us".
