Acquario civico, Milan

#6 of 56 in Parks in Milan
Acquario civico, Milan's free city aquarium, is a great place to cool down and enjoy a variety of aquatic life. The Art Nouveau building is the third-oldest aquarium in Europe, built in 1906 for the International Exhibition of Milan. Inside, you'll find a number of salt- and freshwater exhibits, as well as photo galleries and traveling displays. Particularly notable is the freshwater mountain stream exhibit, which recreates the ecosystem within a snowmelt-fed stream. Here you'll see the high current and pebble bottom characteristic of this environment, along with the small, flat-bodied, or hooked-appendaged creatures adapted to it.
