Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Dublin / Dublin / Saint Patrick's Cathedral
The resting place of writer Jonathan Swift, Saint Patrick's Cathedral represents the largest church in Ireland. Over a thousand years old, this imposing Gothic structure features a 43 m (140 ft) tall spire, one of the city's major architectural landmarks. Built in honor of Ireland's patron saint, the building stands next to an old well allegedly used by Saint Patrick to baptize converts to Christianity. Pay the small fee to sightsee inside the historical cathedral, which contains fine examples of medieval stained glass and a 4,000-pipe organ, one of Ireland's largest. Saint Patrick's Cathedral Reviews
Thought we take a cheeky visit at the time when the evening service was on... to participate. Was basically told to go away. more »
Beautiful building with wonderful stained glass and patterned floor. Lots of information given and activities for kids like brass rubbing. Lots of information provided. Allow at least an hour minumum. more »
Spent a lovely and peaceful hour just wandering around St Patrick's Cathedral. The history of the cathedral is fascinating and it was very calming after spending time thinking about my Dad. The stained glass windows are magnificent and the ceiling is a marvel. Well worth a visit, there was construction work going on outside but all necessary and doesn't distract too much from the beauty of the setting.
An absolutely stunning Cathedral. This is such an architectural masterpiece with THE most beautiful stained glass. Because it's Church of Ireland I feel that it's more culturally inclusive than Catholic cathedrals. For example there is a display of old British flags, a Royal Standard and some military standard flags. There is an interactive history & background section together with books that can be read on everything from Dublin to weather. A must see for Dubliners like myself and tourists alike.
