Art Museum · Hidden Gem · Landmark
With the Museum Barberini, the city of Potsdam has gained in 2017 a new art venue, whose exhibitions range from the Old Masters to contemporary art, with an emphasis on impressionist painting. Centered around works from the collection of its founder and patron Hasso Plattner, who funded the reconstruction of the destroyed palace, the Barberini presents three temporary exhibitions per year, featuring loans from international museums and private collections. Academic conferences with international curators and researchers serve to prepare these exhibitions. At the same time, shorter gallery displays – the so-called “art histories” – put works from the collection into constantly shifting contexts. A diverse programme of events and educational activities as well as digital offers like the Barberini App and the 4K Smart Wall in the museum make art more accessible for everyone.

The director of the Museum Barberini is Ortrud Westheider.

  • Nice museum. I've been there a couple of times. Sometimes i had a great experience and sometimes it felt like the exhibition was a bit disappointing compared to the title it was given. I do really like the museum building itself. It's very nice to walk around in and they do guide you very nicely through the displays with text in German and English.
  • Nice exhibition! Really beautiful building. Every time feel myself really happy there.
