Set against stark cliffs, Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari was constructed during the 15th century BCE and dedicated to Amon-Ra, the sun god. The temple's geometrical design and layout for active worship marked a turning point in ancient Egyptian architecture. Backed by a dramatic cliff face, the three terraces of the temple feature rows of colonnades, reminiscent of Classical architecture, while the interior include sculptures and reliefs narrating the story of Hatshepsut's divine birth. Fantastic majestic structure. I enjoyed every second of my visit there. It is a World Heritage site and you can understand why when your standing in front of it. The long walk up the stairs/ramp towards the upper building gives you the chance to really appreciate the workmanship and knowledge it took to create this structure. The history behind is so interesting. A good guide is imperative.

When the police start offering to take you behind the closed off ropes, don't. They are just trying to scam you and will be expecting a tip. Saw Many tourists fall for it. Although I understand how it's natural to follow orders when a guy with a machine gun tells you to "come over here".
