Avenue of Sphinxes, Luxor

4.4
An ancient pathway lined with statues of the mythical beast, Avenue of Sphinxes connects the temples of Luxor and Karnak. The 2.7 km (1.7 mi) road was once flanked by around 1,350 sphinxes, with the body of a lion and the head of a man. During the annual Opet festival, worshipers would parade figures of the god Amun and his wife Mut down the avenue, celebrating their union. Ongoing excavations at the archaeological site continue to unearth the sphinxes, with some now rebuilt at each end, leading up to the two temples. • On my way to Karnak Temple, I passed by this Avenue which had an area that was flanked by two rows of Sphinxes. Note that this is different from the row of Sphinxes with Rams heads at Karnak Temple. W...  more »
  • After the Karnak temple parking You must pass the small bazaar and the tree-lined avenue of trees to the temple. Two rows of Sphinx statues whose bodies failed to reach a lion and their heads are a deer with attached liars that greet you and put you inside the temple. An impressive sight in AOMEDCH on the Spiksim Avenue. You can see in a straight line the unique temple of God Ammon, his wife, and his son dedicated to the temple.
