An island temple complex dedicated to the Ancient Egyptian goddess Isis, Philae Temple makes up part of a larger set of World Heritage-listed monuments. With hieroglyphs and monumental colonnades, the temple displays features from the late Pharaonic era, though alterations continued right up to the Byzantine period. Look for traces of Roman and Christian embellishments among the ruins, including sculptures, pillars, and archways. In the 1960s, the temple complex was moved to Agilkia Island, because of the dangers posed to the island of Philae by the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Our Aswan tour itinerary website makes visiting Philae Temple and other Aswan attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Philae Temple Reviews
Let me start off with the boat ride to get to this temple. It was magical. The natural stone formation enroute in the Nile was breathtaking. The Philae Temple was relocated with the help of UNO after ... more »
What an experience. Walking around a temple with such history and beauty. I would say give yourself 2-3 hours to enjoy the site. At the end of all your exploring and photo taking, you can rest up with... more »
This site is amazing!!!! I could have spent a day here. The boat ride (yes, it is on an island) was nice. The boats definitely are locally maintained, but they worked well. And the view they offered of the site, both on arriving and departing was excellent. The ruins are excellent and exciting. Hard to describe as they were so...well, amazing. Each structure and area was a new experience. The site is large, but also easily walkable. Bring water and sunscreen. And of course, tips for the toilet keepers. Best part was that the vendors stayed on the dock.
I went to Philae twice while in Aswan, It is a boat ride to the island, A day tour as part of my holiday - Nile Cruise - and again in the evening for a "son at lumiere". I was fascinated by the stories told during the evening of Gods and Pharoahs. In the day tour we were given info on how the temple was moved during the building of the dam. Well worth including in your Egyptian trip.
