Fort Qaitbey, Alexandria

#1 of 17 in Historic Sites in Alexandria
Historic Site · Tourist Spot
An impressive example of medieval military architecture, Fort Qaitbey overlooks the city's harbor. Built in the 1480s, the fortress was designed to provide protection from crusaders arriving by sea--today it offers extensive views of the Mediterranean and the city it was built to defend. The fort allegedly stands on the site of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the now-gone Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. • Good old place, but the visitors not the best people
  • Liked it to feel the greatness and the engineering for old days and still standing for more than 600 years without any harm and how they managed it insides. Really amazing and the views above is really great. It is great to go for adults but for kids a little bit useless and the sun is so hot and may harm someone
