Absorb the blend of ancient history and modern knowledge at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, an important library and strikingly designed cultural complex. Built in honor of the historically significant 3rd-century BCE library of the same name--whose burning represents an immense loss to contemporary cultural knowledge--the modern institution was inaugurated in 2002 with backing from UNESCO. Designed to resemble a rising sun, the library complex aspires to be a bastion of knowledge and learning like its ancient predecessor. Explore the entire complex, which includes four museums, gallery spaces for permanent and temporary exhibits, and a planetarium. • The highlight of our trip was going to be seeing the Library of Alexandria. The structure is an amazing sun disk representation surrounded by high delapedared buildings. It's looks so intimidating.....  more »
  • Better not to skip visiting this place at least once, although I am planning to go there again. The place is so organized and clean. Definitely, it is so quiet and relaxing.  more »

  • A wonderful and indescribable place. It was amazing to know this library. A large historical collection and a very beautiful and modern architecture in one place. Additionally, its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea makes it even more attractive. Highly recommend to all!
  • The building is primarily an actual library for Egyptian people with a massive catalogue of books and digital archives. However for a tourist it's only just an okay place. Many of the exhibits held inside require additional tickets on top of the entrance ticket, and they're rather underwhelming. There is a free exhibit on the late president Sadat which is worth a visit, as it honors a great man who did a lot of good for Egypt.
