Absorb the blend of ancient history and modern knowledge at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, an important library and strikingly designed cultural complex. Built in honor of the historically significant 3rd-century BCE library of the same name--whose burning represents an immense loss to contemporary cultural knowledge--the modern institution was inaugurated in 2002 with backing from UNESCO. Designed to resemble a rising sun, the library complex aspires to be a bastion of knowledge and learning like its ancient predecessor. Explore the entire complex, which includes four museums, gallery spaces for permanent and temporary exhibits, and a planetarium. Amazing and beautiful library! There is so much history related to this location and I fully recommend visiting here if you are in Alexandria! The price is a little higher than I expected but it was still within reason. If you are just going to see the library, there are some locations which are off limits (but are not marked as so) and this can cause confusion. However, overall it is excellent as a place to visit and also likely one of the best locations in the world to find any book you wish to read on any subject! You could spend your life reading and learning here!
Tremendous library! It was reborn on October 2002 to reclaim the mantle of its ancient namesake. It is not just an extraordinarily beautiful building; it is also a vast complex where the arts, history, philosophy, and science come together. Moreover, the myriad activities it offers have made it a place for open discussion, dialogue, and understanding. The BA has four museums: the Sadat Museum (dedicated to the memory of the late President Sadat), the Antiquities Museum, the Manuscripts Museum, and the History of Science Museum.
